Putting Pirates in Prison

Pres. Obama has announced that he will do something about the rise in piracy in the world. Somehow he thinks his administration and the feckless UN can take care of all the scourges that afflict the world (global warming, North Korea, pirates, credit card interest rates…). If they handle this like they handled the North Korean missile launch, it won’t make any difference. Calling a meeting probably won’t cut it.
I do hope that this recent action against the 4 or 5 pirates will be viewed as a deterrent in pirate circles. If we bring the 14 or 15 year old pirate to our shores and try him in our system, and put him in an American prison, that will be a green light to all the pirates of Somalia. It is probably better to be in the American penal system than to live as a pirate in Somalia.
