A few weeks back, my son and I were in negotiation to buy a used car. I had asked for a $200 reduction in the price of the car. The salesman went off to ask the manager. When the manager and salesman returned, the manager launched into a long rambling “answer” that really didn’t answer anything. I looked at my 19 year old son and was able to quickly see that he too wasn’t following the logic behind the long drawn out “No” answer. That is exactly what I thought about tonight. No direct answers, just long winded, talking point filled “blah, blah, blah”. With any luck, you were impressed and couldn’t remember the relatively simple answer the reporters asked.
Other notes:
- I don’t blame Republicans (except on days that end in Y)
- Deficit is no larger than it would have been? This is truly ridiculous.
- Do you know anything about the little blue pill? Evidently Obama doesn’t. I am sure Michelle appreciates that.
- Police are stupid.
- I read letters. I feel their pain.
- I am so transparent, you can practically see through me.
- I am not a doctor, but I play one at press conferences. Diabetes, tonsils, allergies, whatever, the government can fix it if you just let us.
- What is a blue dog?
- .No, thanks. I will keep my gold plated health insurance. But please, let me experiment with your coverage. After all, I know best.
- I see the press is still a lapdog. No one asked about coverage for illegals or any other specifics of the bills that are floating around.
- Whatever bill comes to my desk is better than the status quo, don’t sweat the details, we will fix it just like we fixed the economy.

In his press conference tonight, there is buzz that Obama will tell us that they have rescued the economy. UPI reports:
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel told The New York Times Obama intends to use the news conference as a “six-month report card,” to talk about “how we rescued the economy from the worst recession” and the legislative agenda moving forward, including health care and energy legislation.
If they say it, is it so? Nope. Will they provide some proof? No. I hope this bites them like the constant referrals to “Mission Accomplished” dogged Bush.

Talk is cheap. Making promises is the easy thing.
The Obama administration is missing the deadlines right and left. No report on how to close Guantanamo, no mid-summer budget update, no report from the Cabinet on a plan to cut $100 million from the budget (a tiny amount even by my standards). I am still waiting for all the feedback from the “financial responsibility” summit that was paraded before us earlier this year. Lots of flourish, not so many answers.
Plus, we are getting leaks about how tired everyone is in the administration. Are they working hard or are they working smart? Perhaps Obama would have a bit more time to keep his promises if he cut back on his exercise regimen.
We are also beginning to hear just how much more staff there under the White House umbrella. The legal office alone has grown from around 26 attorneys to 41 now. Obama has an assistant to give him his supplements and play basketball with him. How royal. Throw in all the Czars and we know how he will create jobs. Pretty soon, all the unemployed will be working at the White House.

The administration pushes the bad news in the mid-summer budget update down the road to at least August. It just doesn’t serve the administration’s goals of taking over healthcare and claims of how the stimulus worked so very well. Will the MSM question this transparent move by the administration? Nah…

Texas Rainmaker has a good post about our very smart and eloquent President Obama.

We had a nice shower this afternoon. Praise the Lord! It has been about 8 weeks since we have had any rain. It has been over 100 for several weeks. Still, I do not believe that there is any real evidence that the globe is warming in any way that requires more than small adjustments in the civilized and uncivilized world. I have been hoping for a little tropical storm to brew up in the Gulf and wet us down.
Basically, I hate summer. I have always hated summer. It is so long and hot and humid. I get down in the dumps about August because we still have two or more months of real heat. I revel in the first real cool front. When our kids were little, I thought Chucky Cheese was my personal hell. Now I truly believe if I end up in hell, it will look and feel like the Walmart parking lot we walked across today. Oozing heat. Never clean.

Ok, the Republicans on the committee have damaged her a little. They have managed to convince many of us that she was chosen on her qualifications of being a woman and a hispanic or “latina” as is the preferred exalted phrase. The hearings have shown that she will do anything, say anything to be a judge on the SC. The hearings have also shown that she wasn’t chosen because of her deep grasp of knowledge. They have managed to slap her wrist about her empathy quotient. Perhaps she will try harder to avoid that type of judging now that we are all looking for that kind of thing out of her.
I would like to see 30 Republicans come to the microphones and give the Obama standard for why they aren’t voting for her. “While she is fully qualified, I have chosen to not support her because Obama did the same thing to Justice Roberts.” That would make me happy.

The possible government black ops hit squad was discontinued by CIA Director Leon Panetta. Too bad. This Diabolical Cheney Assasination Crew will not be able to eliminate the enemy as they sleep. Too bad. Rogue units are a thing of the past. Too bad. No need to eliminate our enemies now as the whole world loves and respects our central authority dear leader, Pres. Obama. Snakedoc is no more.

Something worth reading in the NYT. Ben Stein has the best analogy I have seen on Obama’s agenda. Everytime I hear Obama and cohorts say we have to reform healthcare to get out of this recession, I know that this is simply a power grab. Here is the analogy:
What is President Obama doing about it? Perhaps too much. And, possibly, his efforts are too diffuse. When I think about the economy I think about a plump man who has just been hit by a truck while crossing a street and is in severely critical condition with internal bleeding. Instead of just stabilizing his hemorrhaging, the doctor decides that while the patient is unconscious, he might as well also do a face lift, some coronary bypasses and a stomach-stapling to keep him from gaining weight while he is recovering (if he does recover). After all, a crisis is not to be wasted.
Of course, if we get Obamacare, all those procedures will be rationed, so that won’t be a problem.

Recovery.gov isn’t as good as it should be. However, it would be ridiculous to spend $18 million on upgrades to the site. Only in the world of extreme governance would there be a website worth spending that kind of money on. It used to be $600 toilet seats and $800 hammers. Now it is $875 purses and $18 million websites. It also seems that the people who got the job do not list web design as one of their services. However, they have a few people who have donated to Steny Hoyer, #2 Dem in the house. Wow, those donations paid off. From now on, when you click on recovery.gov, expect really mind blowing things.
