I think I have a good suggestion for the Army. Instead of moving Pvt. Manning to Ft. Leavenworth, why don’t we incarcerate him with Maj. Nidal Hassan, the Ft. Hood shooter. This will be a win-win situation. This way, Pvt. Manning can help take care of Maj. Hassan in an up close and personal way. He can spend time with another prisoner and not be so sadly isolated. Also, this would give Maj. Hassan the privilege of getting to know a young, gay soldier. I think they would both benefit from this coupling. They both seem to hate the United States. Pvt. Manning is lonely and Maj. Hassan needs full-time care. They can develop a close relationship and help each other prepare for trial. Maybe Pvt. Manning has some good leaked info he can share with Maj. Hassan that will make his act of terrorism seem justified.

Evil Bank’s Profits Down 32%
Posted by madjillmom on April 19, 2011
This is something you won’t see highlighted by Pres. Obama. Citibank profits are down 32%. Other banking news is big shakeup at B of A. Don’t think this news fits the Recovery meme.

We have Won the War on Poverty
Posted by madjillmom on April 18, 2011
We can cease with our War on Poverty. We can scale back welfare programs to that small percentage of those really in need, those who are physically and mentally unable to care for themselves. We have won.
Most of those in the US that are considered poor have a cell phone, a color TV or two, cable, a car,and air conditioning. Michele Obama tells us there is an epidemic of obesity, so there really aren’t that many going to bed hungry.
Let’s declare victory and put our government on the diet we need to survive as a great country.
Last week, Pres. Obama told us the reason our country is great is because of all the great government programs. How misguided is that.

We have Lost the War on Poverty
Posted by madjillmom on April 18, 2011
The United States government has had a war on poverty my entire life. This war, however good intentioned, has helped to push us to the edge of bankruptcy. Trillions of tax payer dollars have been funneled into all sorts of programs that did not exist when my grandparents were young.
Many have questionable records like Head Start. This program was supposed to level the playing field and help minorities achieve better result. It works, but only up to 3rd grade, then all benefits disappear. But we still spend the money. Buckets after buckets. Welfare, food stamps, job training, Pell grants, urban renewal, an alphabet soup of programs and minimal results. Welfare breeds more welfare with several generations of people remaining on the dole. Food stamps don’t work because we are still told we have to give more because there are so many children starving. We send too many young people off to college with no real results. Detroit and New Orleans are the poster children of Urban Renewal.
The tide of poverty never subsides. Cycles come and go, but poverty never goes away. This is because it can’t be fixed with more money. Cut all the programs. We have lost the war on poverty and there is no more money to spend.

The Answer to Air Traffic Control Sleeping
Posted by madjillmom on April 17, 2011
All the scary news reports of Air Traffic Controllers sleeping on the night shifts. People are resigning and there are task forces looking into things. Sec. of Transportation Ray LaHood is running around threatening to hire more Air Traffic Controllers because the only answer to government doing things badly is to have more government workers.
My answer is to have each controller download a smartphone ap that requires putting in a code every 15 to 20 minutes during these shifts. If the code isn’t input in a short time frame, robo calls go out to the two immediate supervisors of the air traffic controller. Calls are made to airport security and the tower is checked to make sure someone is awake and doing their job. Situation solved. Too many calls on any one controller and they can be dealt with.
Yes, I am sure there could be a scary situation. Let’s find a common sense solution and not hire a bunch more people to fall asleep on the job.
