Pres. Obama says “Ve have vays”

Posted by madjillmom on April 30, 2009

The new Democratic talking point on obtaining good info from those “tortured” souls is that there were other ways to achieve the same thing.  Ok.  Now we have the more compassionate, intelligent, hip President who is an expert on obtaining secret information from those bent on killing or converting us.  I am so glad to hear that.  I can only imagine:

  • a day with Barney Frank
  • an I-pod with Obama’s fabulous speeches with really bad ear buds
  • scratchy sheets
  • ride the NY subway with Biden during a flu epidemic

I will sleep better knowing the Obama and the dems have techniques that will reveal all.  How about revealing the memos Cheney requested?

Shortcuts, Torture, and Terrorists

Posted by madjillmom on April 29, 2009

Regarding the enhanced interrogation techniques, Obama said he has seen no reason to use these techniques and refers to them as shortcuts.  If they didn’t result in some good information, he wouldn’t have used the term shortcut.  A shortcut implies that it was a quicker way to the destination.  I believe that he is saying that the torture resulted in some good information.  He is also implying that these techniques were used first.  I don’t believe that.  I am sure that the treatment was slowly escalated working on a high value target.  It isn’t a “24” plot with only hours to save us from a suitcase nuke.  In fact, one of the arguments is that it didn’t stop anything because there wasn’t something going down right at that moment.  The information resulted in an early intervention in the planning stage before the act was even started.

Don’t let an Epidemic go to Waste

Posted by madjillmom on April 29, 2009

Will Pres. Obama use the H1N1 epidemic to push nationalized health care?  Tarp 1 was done in a hurry, the stimulus was rammed down our throats, and now, the Senate will shove health care down our throats by avoiding the filibuster and putting it under reconciliation.  All these things, done in haste, under the Crisis banner, will come back and bite us on our backsides.

Obama’s Promise to Cut the Deficit and Stimulus II

Posted by madjillmom on April 29, 2009

The contraction of the economy at a rate of over 6% makes Obama’s promise to cut the deficit through the use of rosy scenario growth numbers go from ridiculous to impossible.

Since the stimulus was billed as the government filling in the big contraction hole with our grandchildren’s money, look for calls for another stimulus package due to more contraction.  It only makes sense if you go by what Obama said had to be done.  I guess the next batch will come from my great grandchildren.

I can see it now.

“Look at this picture of your great grandmother.  She got a $400 tax reduction and it cost me $120,000.  Hope she did something good with that $400.”

Put Joe Biden in a Sling

Posted by madjillmom on April 29, 2009

VP Joe Biden is about to dislocate his arm from patting himself on the back.  He is so proud that he gave birth to the 79 year old newest Democrat.  And he did all this while closely monitoring the stimulus money.  Wow, he is awesome.  I guess he is now busy calling Snowe and Collins, courting them, singlehandedly wiping out the Republican party.  He is not only awesome, he is scary.

Smoking Gun Memo

Posted by madjillmom on April 28, 2009

One of the left’s arguments about why there should be prosecution of the lawyers that wrote memos on enhanced interrogation techniques is that the word from the President or VP was to justify what they wanted to do. In other words, Pres. Bush and Co. wanted the outcome to allow “torture”  and that was what they got.  Cheney calls for release of the memos that validate the use of the enhanced interrogation techniques and that is being debated, somewhat.  If there was a memo from Bush/Cheney asking for an affirmation from the lawyers, it would be running on the front page of the NYT and would have been released in a nano-second after being found.  I am sure that Eric Holder is up late every night going through the boxes looking for it.

Cheney’s Health

Posted by madjillmom on April 28, 2009

I brought up the issue of Specter’s health in the last posting.  Now I am going to bring up last weeks Hannity interview with Dick Cheney.  I am wondering if there is something with Cheney’s health.  He speaking was the same as always, measured.  But the breathing seemed to be really labored.  I do not know why that is.  Perhaps it was the placement of microphone, but I do not think so.  I think it would explain Cheney coming in so strong in opposition to the Obama administration and their policies on so called torture and the handling of the now defunct War on Terror.  Maybe he has nothing to lose.  I hope his health is not an issue.  I go back and forth about whether he should be speaking out in the way he is. I generally agree with all he has said.

Good Bye Specter

Posted by madjillmom on April 28, 2009

I really do hope that PA voters doesn’t reward the patent self serving switch to the Democratic Party today.  There were already 3 dems running for Specter’s seat.  I guess they have been thrown under the bus.  This move wasn’t done for principles, it was done because Specter couldn’t win the Republican primary after his disastrous vote for cloture on the stimulus package.  He didn’t even try the better alternative to switch to Independent rather than defect and spurn all his former Republican colleagues. Some are saying that Specter winning as a dem is better than a worse dem.  I feel the other way. I hope Toomey wins. If not, I hope a full fledged, dyed in the wool dem beats Specter. Then there will be no more pretence about who owns the economy, health care, overseas contingency operations, etc.  If I was a blue dog Dem, I would be cussing Specter.  Now any restraint is all up to them.  This can’t be good for the next Supreme Court Appointee.

Specter has said the word “independent” far more often than Democrat at his news conference.  He validates the 5 year effort based on his voting record.   He looks and sound more feeble than recently.  He may not be any issue in 2010 if his health is an issue.

If you attended a Tea Party in PA, Spector just slapped you in the face

Update: ON March 17, 2009, Specter reiterated his plan to stay in the Republican party.  If his principles haven’t changed, what has?  The polls in his home state.  So much for principles.

Mexico and Pakistan – More Chaos to Come

Posted by madjillmom on April 26, 2009

It seems that the world isn’t going to wait for Pres. Obama to bask in the fauning press for his coolest 100 days ever.  Let’s see what is brewing out there.

Mexico is in the grips of drug cartel chaos, its perpetual corruption, and a swine flu outbreak (serious enough to bring together Obama administration officials for a Sunday news conference).  This will knock more blocks out from underneath any stability there is, especially when the tourist business stops bringing in money.

Pakistan falls further into it’s death spiral with an ineffective government (husband of assassinated Benazir Bhuto), giving into the Taliban who blow up toys in girls schools.  The money we give to them goes to their defense against India (a true non threat), not to fighting the Taliban and Al Quada.

Some blogs say that Pres. Obama met with a man who died the next day of the swine flu on his recent visit to Mexico.  Should we quarantine the White House, the press contingent and the entourage that went with him to Mexico?  Perhaps the best we can hope is he gave the swine flu to Chavez, Ortega, Morales, and the Castro brothers without actually getting it himself.

Let’s not even look at North Korea or Iran, or Hezbollah messing around in Egypt as proxy to Iran.  I don’t think the White House has time with releasing the photographs of our guys hurting their detainees, flip-flopping on prosecution of former White House officials, pulling the rug out from under the CIA, letting the Guantanamo detainees loose in D.C., etc.  Oh, yeah,  they decided at their first cabinet meeting to comb through their own budget and make some cuts that amount to a cup of Starbucks to someone making $100,000 a year.

See, even if you are soooo cool, it ain’t easy being President.

Cabin Fever

Posted by madjillmom on April 26, 2009

My broken ankle is getting to the point of making me a bit stir crazy.  Yesterday, I finally spend some time outside.  I find mowing very therapeutic.  I always have.  So, I climbed on the Cub Cadet and mowed what we call a yard.  Mostly I mow weeds and then they look good for a few days.  After a few rounds, I switced to using a stick to push on the accelerator and using one arm to steer.  Harder but better for my ankle.  It was only after I was finished that I saw the cruise control lever that would have done it for me and left two arms for steering.  I am so smart. Other than that, I have spent most of my active time on the computer trying to catch up on our ever dwindling investments and 401K accounts.

Last week, I went out twice.  Once to the doctor on Monday and to the bank on Friday because I had to notarize something.  I really began to feel it last night.  I want to go out somewhere.  I am going to a young man’s Eagle Scout ceremony this afternoon, but I don’t know if it will get rid of the cabin fever.  Hope so.
