Arizona Profiling Law

Posted by madjillmom on April 29, 2010

The new law in Arizona causing so much bloviating has me thinking. On balance, I believe the law to be good. If a policeman stops you, you generally have to provide documentation or a driver’s license to the policeman. If I was robbing the local pharmacy and was apprehended, something tells me that the authorities would endeavor to identify me. I am guessing that if I was stopped for vandalizing a business in Germany, they would want me to provide my passport, even if I told them in broken German that I was Frau Frumpy from Berlin. If I provided false documentation, I would be prosecuted and thrown out of the country for sure. I am not sure what is different about the situation in Arizona.

This isn’t to say that I want illegal immigrants rounded up and deported. I do want criminal illegal aliens prosecuted and deported.

Yesterday, I stopped by the third world. Actually, I stopped by Ross, the closest thing to an international bizarre in this part of the world. I love Ross, for the most part. However, I usually feel like the only American in the store when I am there. As I passed by several people and heard their native languages being spoken, I did become concerned. There will be unintended consequences with this new law. They will happen because the laws that already exist haven’t been enforced for so long.

Will this law make casual instances critical? If an illegal immigrant exceeds the speed limit and sees the flashing lights in his rearview mirror, will he now try to outrun the police? This would create a very big problem. What used to be a ticket may now turn into a high speed chase.

Will more illegal immigrants try to learn English now? This would be a good consequence of the law. If illegal aliens want to blend in, they should learn English.

It scares me to even post something on this subject. I a racist bigot. I apparently hate all Hispanics. Is there a way to talk about this stuff without being perceived as bigoted?

Earth Day and Why I Don’t Buy Man Caused Global Warming

Posted by madjillmom on April 22, 2010

Via Instapundit, this post at Reason is great.  Take a moment to read it, especially the last paragraph.  While I would support new, renewable energy from the marketplace, and reasonable efforts by us all to conserve and recycle, I cannot buy into global climate change.  I remember when things were much worse.

Silver Dust Polished Into the Wood

Posted by madjillmom on April 16, 2010

No, I have never seen silver dust polished into wood on a car console. It looks lovely.  Who thinks this stuff up?

Amused by Tim McVeigh Types

Posted by madjillmom on April 16, 2010

Last night Pres. Obama said he was amused by the Tea Party protests.  At about the same time, Bill Clinton was addressing the NYT and explaining the correlations between the tea party rhetoric and Tim McVeigh.  So now, Tea Party supporters are redneck racists with higher than average incomes inciting anti-government terrorism.  Clueless.

Light Posting

Posted by madjillmom on April 11, 2010

I haven’t been posting much lately.  Part of that is due to the spring and all the stuff I need to do.  We cut down two trees in the yard this weekend.  What fun.  Cut down some stuff by the pond a few weeks ago.  Large burn piles and a bit carbon footprint.

Then there is taxes and April 15.  I have one more return to do or oversee.

My newest project is trying to inventory the comic books my husband has collected.  This could take a long while.  I have to try to do something to sell some of them.  This involves the “greater fool” theory.  There are prices associated with these things, but I don’t know if there are any buyers out there.  Maybe these piles of paper will fund our retirement or at least a trip to Vegas.

Another reason for light posting is the unrelenting, ongoing feeling that the new normal is Barack Obama’s new vision for America.  I need to get in high dungeon over some of this stuff, but how long can you keep it up.  Need to recharge.  I hate the new normal.  It sucks.  Maybe I need to go to a Tea Party to stoke the fire.  Uh oh, another carbon footprint problem.

Kyrgyzstan Doesn’t Match Up with the New START Treaty with Russia

Posted by madjillmom on April 11, 2010

The situation in Kyrgyzstan is bad. It has ramifications to the war in Afghanistan. I haven’t heard the President address the issue. It seems it is very inconvenient to bring it up when you are making a big show of signing a new START Treaty with Russia. This sort of thing is how we got a Vice President Biden. Hope that doesn’t happen again.

I just can’t seem to trust the Russians on this or the unfortunate Polish airplane disaster. Trust but verify.

Obama Doing Something Right

Posted by madjillmom on April 11, 2010

Re: Pakistan

Pres. Obama has upped the game in Pakistan. This is a good thing. Maybe the Pakistani government is really impressed that he calls them Pock i stan. Or maybe they know the bad guys will kill them just like they did Benazir Bhutto. Either way, good for Obama.

Things I Don’t Care About…

Posted by madjillmom on April 5, 2010

The country is going to hell in a hand basket. My childrens’ futures are bleak. My husband could lose his job tomorrow. My doctor’s appointment could reveal something bad. I really can’t get that concerned about Tiger Woods and what kinds of questions he will face at some press conference today at the Masters.
