Sometimes I entertain the thought that the reason we do not do enough to close our southern border is because we are waiting for the total demise of Mexico as a narco-state. The more chaos and killings, the closer we are to a new status for the undocumented here. Soon they will become “Refugees requesting asylum”. Does this change their process for becoming possible citizens? Every massacre south of the border makes me wonder if there will be large refugee camps set up just north of the border in the near future. It would be the only compassionate response. Never let a crisis go to waste.

Tax Master’s Christmas Cheer
Posted by madjillmom on December 8, 2010
I generally love the Christmas programs on TV. This year, I am constantly tickled to see that Tax Masters has a Christmas commercial. It is basically the same commercial they usually have about “is the IRS hounding you?” with a nice snowing background and poinsettia border. There are jingle bells ringing while the bearded guy (not Santa) tells us how to keep the IRS Grinch at bay. If you haven’t filed your tax return for several years, this commercial dipped in Christmas is the least of your problems, unless you are a congressman or cabinet member. Then back taxes are just a little inconvenience.

Rangel’s Nonexistent Shame
Posted by madjillmom on December 3, 2010
Congressman Charlie Rangel was censured by the House of Representatives yesterday. The outgoing Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, read the censure to Rangel, who was standing in the well of the house. Although hailed as a mark of shame, Rangel spoke after about how this punishment was not in line with his inadvertent actions, meant to harm no one. Blah, Blah, Blah…
Nancy looked as though she were having an non-medicated colonoscopy while she read the charges in a pinched fashion. She let Charlie the Swamp Monster frolic around the whole time she was supposed to be cleaning it up. Since Bill Clinton was impeached, the mechanisms of shame in congress are utterly useless.

Dems Don’t Learn
Posted by madjillmom on December 3, 2010
They just do not get it. Another week of grandstanding trying to make their opponents look bad rather than trying to get things done. The meeting on Tuesday between the President and both parties created a group to work out something on the Bush tax cuts. This group hasn’t met yet because the Dems want to waste time voting on bills that won’t make it for grandstanding reasons. Meanwhile, today is the day for a continuing budget resolution so the government doesn’t shut down. If the Dems had an urgency to do what needs to be done, it might have helped the Deficit committee vote to come out better. This is stupid. Get it together. NOW!
