I do hope we all have a happy and prosperous New Year. I don’t have much hope for that now that Obama will be with us for another 4 years.

Joining the NRA
Posted by madjillmom on December 28, 2012
I have joined the NRA this morning for three years. I am going semi Gault in the New Year, so I needed to get it done. This is the only group standing between us and the confiscation of guns.
On a side note, I hope Andrew Cuomo has killed his hopes to be President by saying he thinks we can consider confiscation of firearms.

Concealed Carry for Teachers and Principals
Posted by madjillmom on December 17, 2012
In the State of Texas, active military can obtain a concealed carry permit and the fee is waived. They must take the course, but do not have to pay for their license. Maybe Texas should consider waiving the fee for teachers and principals at public and private schools. Schools are soft targets. We can’t outlaw crazy, so we might as well make schools able to defend against them.

Connecticut School Shooting
Posted by madjillmom on December 14, 2012
As the mother of three young men in active military service, I know there is a risk of a knock on the door and unbearable news coming into our lives. Sending your children off to elementary school is not the same thing. I will pray for those too young and innocent, too soon gone. I pray for their families.
Now there is word that the shooter might have been the son of a teacher. Where did he get the idea that he was such a victim that he needed to kill others on the way out? Could it be our culture that tells you nothing is your own fault? Could it be our culture that tells us that our last minutes can make headlines? Can it be video games and movies that glorify lots of deviant behaviour?
I know this will be blamed mostly on the guns. Guns don’t kill people, crazy people kill people. This young man chose to do this. Let’s blame him. Let’s blame the Aurora shooter. Let blame the Portland Mall shooter.

NFL Killer
Posted by madjillmom on December 8, 2012
Another NFL killer, another day. A Dallas Cowboy has been charged in the death of a team mate. Perhaps we should ban cars and alcohol. Maybe it was a concussion that made the man so stupid as to drive intoxicated. Maybe he just couldn’t afford a taxi. Someone call Bob Costas and find out how to think about another senseless tragedy.

Guns Are the Problem…
Posted by madjillmom on December 4, 2012
All the usual suspects are crawling out from behind their gated communities to tell us how guns are the problem in the recent murder/suicide of an NFL football player. Jovan Belcher didn’t do these deeds, the gun did. The gun control/anti 2nd amendment crowd won’t talk about the possibly real causes of this awful crime. They won’t talk about how it isn’t a good idea to have a baby out-of-wedlock and the strain that a couple can go through if there isn’t any real commitment beyond procreation. We aren’t going to discuss if the man was an abuser or not. We won’t discuss if he came from a broken home or was raised by a single mother. We aren’t going to discuss the misogynist black culture or violence that pervades the broken black family these days. We aren’t going to wonder why a man who graduated with a degree in child development and family relations wasn’t able to back away from the act of violence where his gun put 9 bullets in his baby mama. We aren’t going to wonder why these two people were out on the town drinking and doing whatever with other people instead of at home together taking care of a baby they brought into this world. We aren’t going to discuss how our society looks the other way on lots of this stuff and coddles athletes who are serial bad actors on the roll model stage.
No, we are going to blame a gun, not the person who pulled the trigger.
