Boycotting Tom Hanks

Posted by madjillmom on March 12, 2012

Tom Hanks has produced the Pox on Palin movie for HBO, Game Change.  I have always rather liked Tom Hanks.  I have considered going to see his newest movie, Incredibly Loud  and Extremely Close.  It looks like it could be good.  Too bad.  I have decided to boycott Tom Hanks.  He seems to be edging closer and closer to being such a jerk politically.  If you get in my face, and tell me  I am stupid, I wont’ pay to see your films.

Carbonite, HBO, Media Matters, and others – Please remember, boycotts work both ways.

Shut up and Sing!

Sarah Palin’s Emails

Posted by madjillmom on June 14, 2011

The Middle East is aflame with the so-called Arab Spring.  We are possibly involved in 4 separate wars there. The American West is on fire.  The President is learning to speak Spanish.  The Debt ceiling matter is not yet handled.  But the real issue is Sarah Palin’s e-mail.  They must be analyzed and picked through.  A tanning bed for pale Sarah is national news.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, Nero fiddles…

Expanding Our Moral Imaginations

Posted by madjillmom on January 13, 2011

I did not watch the Tuscon Memorial last night.  I heard snippets of Obama’s speech and then read over it online.  If Sarah Palin, who is not a public official, was late to condemn those trying to lay blame (as posited by a Dem on Fox News yesterday), then Pres. Obama was really late to do so.  Yes, he said some good things, some touching things.  He also finally sounded the undeniable truth that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions regarding this terrible incident, shouldn’t be eager to hijack the issue to our own benefit.  He seemed to go back to lecturing us all about our discourse and the need to strive to be better people.  I love to be lectured to, don’t you?  I would have been so much better if he had admitted  to cranking up the rhetoric himself.  I would have been impressed if he had admitted to being a sinner while extorting us all to be better.  I would have been even more impressed if he had done this before the polls came out that the public wasn’t buying the drumbeat of blaming the conservatives, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh or the Tea Party members. I would have been even more impressed if he hadn’t called the media darling Sheriff Dupnik a few days ago and praised his handling of the situation.

The strangest phrase of the speech was requesting that we expand our moral imaginations.  What does this mean?  I know Obama is a smart man, but I have never heard of our moral imagination.  Morals are morals and imagination is imagination.  Seems that they do not really go together.  In fact, it seems that the murderer was expanding his moral imagination when he did this awful thing.  Is there a program available out there to help me expand my moral imagination?

Tucson Murders Handwringing

Posted by madjillmom on January 12, 2011

Political rhetoric, political correctness, gun metaphors, toning it down.  OMG, the goofy smiling killer is at fault.  No one else.

Political rhetoric is essential to our system.  Speech is protected.  Get over this anal exam of who said what and whether it incited violence.

If there were signs, if the authorities knew of the suspicions of those around Jared Loughner, then let’s get to the bottom of what wasn’t done that could have been done.  Do not attempt to tamp down speech and debate in the name of a crazy man.

I just listened to a pundit accuse Sarah Palin of being late to the game.  He thinks all politicians have a responsibility to call for toning down the rhetoric.  Was that what Pres. Obama was doing when he call the big mouth sheriff who has non-stop called this tragedy the fault of talk radio, Sarah Palin, and the tea party?  Did the President ask this guy to stop the blame game?  I do not think so.  He praised this big mouth idiot who possibly knew of the erratic behavior of the killer and does not want us to know that.

Remember, if you can use a tragedy to assault your opponents, don’t let that go to waste.  Don’t wait for facts, just use anything you can to shoot down your enemies.  Yes, I said “shoot”.  Get over it.

Sara Palin’s an Average Woman

Posted by madjillmom on July 15, 2010

I like Sarah Palin. I have from the beginning. She isn’t perfect. No one is.

When Sarah Palin saw the US Weekly cover where Bristol and Levi announce their re-engagement, I am sure that she felt just what any of us would feel. Having your child bring home someone who has proven to be or will prove to be unacceptable is a heartache. Most of us haven’t been publicly maligned by your child’s new intended all over the press. I never heard Sarah say much about Levi except that she was sorry he was doing what he was doing and that it hurt the family. I think she stayed above the fray and tried to protect the family from further damage. Levi will have to face the music. So will Bristol. Remember they are young and stupid.

I have been blessed that, so far, our sons haven’t brought home any girl that we didn’t like. Still, I feel Sarah’s pain. Some other mother might want to get ahold of Levi and really tell him what an ass he is. Plus, my mother’s alarms go off about the possibility that this new relationship is more about avoiding his financial responsibility than missing Bristol.

Game Change: John and Elizabeth v. Palin

Posted by madjillmom on January 10, 2010

For the last week, several blogs and tv programs have features this new book, Game Change. For the first 5 days or so, all I heard about was the “revelation” regarding Sarah Palin calling Joe Biden “O’Biden”, something that Palin herself had already written about in Going Rogue. This story has been passed around as proof positive that Palin is an idiot. Whatever, not real proof or real earth shattering. But now, I have read an excerpt from the book regarding the Edwards Campaign. OMG!! I am now certain that the press will knock over a real story to pursue a non story to discredit Sarah Palin.

I have heard for several years about the long suffering Elizabeth Edwards. How wonderful she is. If 1/10th of this story is true, she is a nut-case just like her husband’s mistress and all the people who witnessed this stuff firsthand should thank their lucky stars that Obama won. I am not thankful that Obama won, but given the Edward’s saga, better Obama than John. At least I was wise enough to vote for Hillary in the primary.
